When we look up at the night sky, we see thousands of stars scattered across the darkness. But what we are actually seeing is only a tiny fraction of a vast cosmic structure known as a galaxy. Galaxies are enormous systems containing billions or even trillions of stars, along with gas, dust, planets, and mysterious dark matter. They are the building blocks of the universe, shaping the large-scale structure of everything we observe in the cosmos.
