00:04:40: okay whether it's a coal plant A nuclear facility or even a wind turbine The ultimate goal of almost every power plant on Earth is simply to spin a giant magnet inside a massive coil of copper wire.

00:04:54: We build these billion dollar high-tech nuclear reactors and the end result is basically just boiling water to create steam to spend a turbine.

00:05:04: it is essentially dangerous very expensive steam engine

00:05:10: To move the magnets

00:06:39: i'd be looking entirely different thing.

00:06:41: You look at military tactics economic structures political maneuvering lens through which every subsequent fact is tinted by

00:06:51: It gives specific mission as reader.

00:06:54: So when a learner sees the power of electromagnetism their brain is primed to look for the dramatic world-altering consequences Of the physics not just the math equations.

00:07:24: which brings us to the actual subject that is supposedly wielding all this power.

00:07:28: The second half of our five-word document isolates a very specific, incredibly dense concept with electromagnetism.

00:08:20: too sprawling...I can't hold all my working memory at once.

00:08:23: is entirely to diffuse.

00:08:24: If someone says i'm gonna teach you physics I don't even know what room of the house we are standing in.

00:08:29: But by naming electromagnetism exclusively on the title, The text creates a heavily fortified boundary.

00:08:35: It narrows your focus.

00:08:37: It tells you brain to immediately shut down gravity schema Shutdown fluid dynamics schema.

00:08:44: Put away black holes.

00:08:46: It consolidates your focus.

00:08:49: This single word acts as a catalyst, prompting your brain to aggressively pull up everything you already know.

00:08:56: Every passing reference you've ever heard about magnets electricity light and technology

00:09:01: It's preparing a specific mental workspace for the incoming information.

00:09:06: You're clearing off the desk For this one specific topic.

00:09:09: here is where I get tripped-up.

00:09:10: And what...I think A lot of people probably get Tripped Up with this Word.

00:09:13: The word electromagnetism is a compound word.

00:09:17: It's electricity and magnetism just smashed together, And for most of my life I honestly thought those two completely different things.

00:09:24: Most people do historically speaking right

00:09:26: because on one hand you have static Electricity from rubbing the balloon in your hair?

00:09:30: On the other hand You have magnets holding up grocery lists on their refrigerator.

00:09:34: They seem entirely unrelated

00:09:35: Completely unrelated.

00:09:37: What Is the actual mechanical connection between A Balloon sticking to wall and a piece of iron sticking to a fridge.

00:09:45: Why are they single word in this title?

00:09:48: That is the perfect question because The Word itself, Is A Monument To One Of The Most Profound Conceptual Leaps In Human History.

00:09:56: Really!

00:09:56: A monument!

00:09:57: And truly for centuries humans treated them exactly as you just described As completely distinct unrelated curiosities of nature.

00:10:05: So people studying electricity weren't talking about people studying magnet.

00:10:09: Exactly Lightning was Electricity Loadstones were magnetism.

00:10:13: There was no overlap in the scientific literature.

00:10:16: So when did that change?

00:10:17: It wasn't until the nineteenth century, That scientists began to notice these really strange overlaps.

00:10:22: Okay The most famous example is Hans Christian Ostet.

00:10:26: Yes he's a Danish physicist And during lecture on eighteen twenty He noticed it when turned out an electrical current and wire A nearby compass needle twitched.

00:10:36: Just running an electric current through a completely normal wire created a magnetic field strong enough to move a compass!

00:10:42: Yes just a Twitch but it was there.

00:10:45: That is wild.

00:10:47: And that Twitch of the Compass Needle Was The First Empirical Proof That Electricity and Magnetism Were Intimately Connected

00:15:42: I'm Definitely Guilty Of That.

00:15:43: If an article doesn't give me a thesis in the first paragraph, I'm probably closing the tab.

00:15:47: We rely entirely on the author's curation.

00:15:50: But this document creates a jarring halt to that passive consumption

00:15:54: Because there is nothing to consume.

00:15:56: Exactly The paradox of an empty excerpt subverts your conditioning.

00:16:02: When you read the word excerpt Your brain prepares to consume and argument.

00:16:44: but if i hand you this blank piece of paper Your mind has to engage yet?
